SOMETIMES, PEOPLE ARE just wrong about what they’ve made. You know: the Michelin-starred chef who takes chilli, cumin, coriander, garam masala and chickpeas to create a “spicy British stew”. No mate, it’s a curry… doesn’t matter what name you give the dish, it’s still a curry.
When cooking up the new GSX-S1000F, Suzuki took the engine from the much-loved K5 version of the GSX-R1000 sportsbike, detuned it, added higher handlebars, a lower seat and lower footpegs, with a taller screen – all the ingredients of a traditional sports tourer. But they insist it’s a new kind of sportsbike. To us it still looks like a sports tourer.
Well, until you park it beside a purpose-built sports tourer: in this case, Kawasaki’s popular Z1000SX Tourer. At 1043cc, its engine doesn’t fit…
