It was a good problem to have, as they say. But a problem nonetheless. The SEMA Show had grown rapidly since the first gathering of 100 aftermarket companies at Dodger Stadium in 1967. Moving the next Show to the larger, brand-new Anaheim Convention Center was a good solution at the time. It offered plenty of space to accommodate the hundreds of booths and thousands of attendees at the Show each year. But by the mid-’70s, the SEMA Show filled even that spacious venue. “For the past two years, the Show has been sold out,” reported Hot Rod Industry News (HRIN), Petersen Publishing’s trade publication, in its April 1977 issue.
