Since 2018, the Syrian Cassette Archives (SCA) have been cataloguing, researching and sharing music released in Syria, primarily through the digitised archive of cassettes (from the 1970s through to the 2000s) which can be found, freely available, on their website. Each cassette listing contains images of the original artwork and audio, as well as context explaining the music and artists on each release. There are currently over 1,000 cassettes in the archive, which were collected primarily by its founders, Mark Gergis and Yamen Mekdad, in addition to other collaborators. The collection takes in many styles from Syria, its neighbours and exiled communities, including Assyrian, Kurdish, Armenian and Iraqi music.
