Around 3,000 competitors from 81 countries took part in the Deaflympics, a competition for athletes who are deaf or hard of hearing. The games are held every four years and this year were in Japan from 15 to 26 November.
There were 21 sports in the Deaflympics. Badminton, basketball, karate, table tennis, swimming and volleyball were some of the activities that athletes competed in, aiming to get a gold (winner), silver (second place) or bronze (third place) medal. Ukraine won the most medals, picking up 99 in total: 32 golds, 39 silvers and 28 bronzes. Hosts Japan were second with 51, followed by China’s 50 medals.
