There was plenty of British and Irish interest in the 2019 Barkley Marathons, with Nicky Spinks, James Elson, Paul Giblin, Carol Morgan and Billy Reed all taking part, as well as three-times Spine Race winner, the Czech Republic’s Pavel Palonc.
They joined three-times finisher Jared Campbell, the most recent finisher John Kelly, Appalachian Trail FKT-holder Karel Sabbe and Big Backyard Ultra winners Johan Steene and Guillaume Calmettes, plus several more returnees, in the race’s strongest ever line-up. Yet no-one finished the race based in Frozen Head State Park, Tennessee, USA, for the second successive year, with the weather playing a major factor.
