Yes, we know that it’s basically a highly glorified deck boat, but Starcraft has created something really cool with the SCX 231. If you look at it this way, it’s a hybrid of a pontoon boat and a wakeboat. To the untrained eye, the double-up can look like a chaotic mess that’s impossible to navigate. Over time and with a little practice, however, these rollers can be bridled and used as a tool to send you higher in the air than you’ve ever been on a wakeboard. The first step in this process is understanding how the double-up works and where you need to be in relation to the rollers. The first stop of the five-event 2016 Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour was a long-anticipated one. With the tour expanding this year, the new Supra SA550 pulling the events, and new venues galore, there’s a lot to look forward to. The first stop is always the one that sets the tone for the season, as it’s a solid barometer reading of who’s been riding a bunch either in their offseason or down in the Southern Hemisphere. There’s always a bit of buzz among the riders at the first stop as well. Whether they’re catching up with friends or meeting new faces on the tour, it’s an exciting stop to be at. I have always been a fan of Nautique’s G-series wakeboats. Infamous for the “Game Changer” campaign, the Nautique G23 delivered wakeboarding’s first wake-to-wake 1260 and the only perfect contest score in our sport’s history. When this story came across our desk, it gave us all a pretty good laugh. It almost didn’t seem real. When we looked into it, we discovered that the story was submitted by a friend of the victim, and it took place in Australia, of all places — so naturally, it had to be true. While we have our doubts about whether this so-called friend isn’t just the victim himself playing it cool, apparently the scars do exist, and the once-tragic memory of the incident is now accompanied by humor rather than remorse. Hunting gators, ripping fourwheel vehicles around, getting scared by a bunch of geese, paddleboarding, swimming, and everything else you can do outside that only requires the use of one arm. New trick : Flip off the wall at the Bishops’ place. This was a day or so before I dislocated my shoulder, which led to the eventual surgical repair.
