For the first time in nine years, the Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour returned to Canada, this time for the fourth stop of the 2016 series. The world’s top professional wakeboarders put it all on the line at Shalom Park, but in the end, it was one rider who dominated the competition throughout the day. This is probably one of our favorite new models for 2017. Since covering the release earlier this summer, we’ve been anxious to get on this thing and see what the team over at Moomba has been cooking up. First things first, this boat was designed with the wakes and surf waves as the key focus. The Helix is deep, which means it displaces a lot of water and provides incredible wakes and surf waves for its size. Tigé isn’t the type to rest on its laurels. For proof of the Texas-based boatbuilder’s constant pursuit of innovation, look no further than the 2017 RZX 3. Tigé debuted its new 23-foot flagship just a year ago, and yet the second model year is already brimming with a host of enhancements. The most obvious place to start is the most visible improvement: the massive new touchscreen user interface, which just screams at you from the elegant, streamlined dash. The last stop of the Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour was set up to be the most dramatic final to date, and it delivered. Going into the weekend, Mike Dowdy led Tony Iacconi by a measly five points for the overall title, effectively making it a head-to-head battle to see who the overall champ would be. Indianapolis in the summer has the perfect climate for a wakeboarding event. During our weekend there, it heated up during the day without too much humidity, and the winds settled down for perfect glass. The A24 has been a staple in the Axis line for a while, but we wanted to highlight it here as one of our favorite boats to look out for in 2017 for a few reasons. The first, and definitely the most important, is the wakes and waves behind this thing. For a lot of manufacturers, displacing enough water with a massive hull always seems to create its own unique set of obstacles. To get a good wake behind a 24-footer, you have to add a lot of weight, and when you add a lot of weight, you then need a ton of power to get all that weight up and out of the water. Nautique truly has something with its G- series line, and the company just added a dynamic new model to round it out. Now, that’s not to say that Nautique isn’t vigorously engineering something new as we speak, but from our vantage point, there’s something to offer everyone with the 2017 G lineup. The GS20 debuted recently and was a huge success in terms of creating buzz around the industry, and with good reason. This winter we partnered up with Bec Gange and Supra Boats to produce a contest that will shed some light on young, up-and-coming women riders. Thus we created Bec Gange’s Recruit Pursuit. O ver the course of spring and summer, amateur women uploaded their best f i ve tricks to our Facebook page for a chance to win our grand prize: a day out riding with Bec, and a photo shoot with one of our senior photographers. If your riding has started to feel a little stale, or if you’re just looking to add some style to your tricks by grabbing your board longer and in different ways, then you’re the perfect candidate to start wrapping up — but where do you start? The first and most obvious step is learning how to get wrapped in the first place. The goal is to get the main handle into your back hand before you grab the small handle. When the Texas trio of Andrew Adams, Davis Griffin and Chris Abadie entered the scene, it wasn’t a gradual process. The first few videos launched on the blog they dubbed Shredtown were of three dudes hitting gaps and winching spots in Texas that were bigger and gnarlier than anyone had ever seen. Their name spread like wildfire, and the general consensus was that these guys were doing things completely differently than any wakeboard crew had before. This year was set up to be the Cory and Harley show. Anyone who witnessed last year’s battles, which respectively landed them No. 1 and No. 2 in the standings, had a strong feeling that they would be trading off wins this year behind the Supra SA550, with an additional stop making for a fun season to witness.
