Norway is one of the world’s richest nations – mostly thanks to the discovery of oil deposits in the North Sea half a century ago. Easy access to capital, coupled with a desire to move the economy beyond fossil fuels, has created fertile ground for startups. In the past, “many of the country’s brightest heads used to go into developing world-leading oil exploration and extraction systems,” says Magnus Wanberg, CEO and founder of Oslo-based startup reMarkable. But in recent years, many of them, “now pre-loaded with world-class engineering skills from incredible engineering projects,” he adds, have been transitioning into other industries, including the startup sector. 070
