atlanta-based medical aesthetics boutique ovme is coming to nashville.

Founded in 2017 by Mark McKenna MD MBA, OVME connects aspiring women and men to innovative retail medical aesthetic services in select markets nationwide. In November 2018, OVME will open its second location at the Hill Center Shopping Plaza in Green Hills. OVME’s contemporary, yet welcoming studio environment and unique membership offerings will position it as Nashville’s premier minimally invasive cosmetic provider.“Generally speaking, the medical aesthetics marketplace is lacking in innovation and ready for something new,” says Dr. McKenna. “The needs of the medical aesthetic consumer have evolved beyond the industry landscape. When creating OVME, we reimagined the patient journey. OVME curates personalized experiences for all of our clients.” OVME services include neurotoxins (Botox, Dysport), dermal fillers, Vivace Microneedling, hormone replacement therapy, PRP for hair loss, precision weight management,…

from the publisher

(CAMERON POWELL) It’s also the month we bring you our Most Beautiful People feature, and we ask ourselves, “What is beautiful?” Every year, we receive hundreds of nominations, and we select a diverse group, representing people from all walks of life, who are beautiful inside and out. This year, we have musicians, television personalities, athletes, a doctor, a beauty queen influencer, a chef, and many more. There was no contest about who should be on the cover. We had to profile James Shaw, Jr. In April, Mr. Shaw put his life on the line when he took on the gunman who killed four people at a local Waffle House. Since that horrific shooting, he has raised more than $240,000 for the victims and shown a level of humility, compassion, and character…

behind the scenes

(SUPPLIED) Writer Jon Gugala spent some time hanging around this year’s Most Beautiful People photo shoot, namely to interview our cover person, James Shaw, Jr. “The surprising thing about James was how quickly he’s matured,” Gugala says. “He’s a different person than he was at that April press conference. The tragedy he was a part of has been forged into ambition and drive. It’s amazing to see his transformation.”Gugala, who has also written for Outside Magazine, Deadspin, and Men’s Journal, among others, says that working on this particular feature gave him a different perspective on the definition of beauty. “It’s obvious that beauty isn’t something for which [people on this year’s list] strive,” he says. “They’re caught that way in a moment, whether in a photograph or in a time…

teaching is beautiful

Teaching is . . . . . . turning possibility into reality. Linda Gilbert, director of schools for Murfreesboro City Schools, realizes that every child has the potential to rise above their challenges. “My perspective on possibilities changed when I heard a high-poverty, special-needs child perform his own musical composition. It was breathtaking,” Gilbert said. “From that moment, I knew that limitless possibilities exist. And with high expectations, hard work, and perseverance, limitless possibilities become limitless realities.” . . . building futures. Jenifer Burns, a physical education teacher at McFadden School of Excellence, treasures the opportunity she has to watch her students grow as individuals. “Every day I get a front row seat to witness them mature, become deep-level thinkers, and diligently pull themselves out of…

HEROES IN HEELS 23 This fashion show fundraiser gives breast cancer patients and survivors their moment to shine. Breast cancer treatments, like chemotherapy and radiation, often leave patients feeling physically, emotionally, and mentally drained; the healing process requires a full-body restoration. After Breast Cancer (ABC), a Middle Tennessee YMCA program, is dedicated to providing this through comprehensive nutrition, exercise, and a community-based support system. Although the 16-week ABC program costs roughly $750 per person, YMCA facilities are able to offer it free, thanks to generous donations and one very special fundraiser, appropriately labeled Heroes in Heels. The 18th annual Heroes in Heels fashion show features fall pieces from Dillard’s of Green Hills, all modeled by Middle Tennessee breast cancer patients and survivors. Heroes in Heels benefits the Maryland Farms…
