As many of you know, I am a proud native Nashvillian and the son of a Metro Police officer. Admittedly, as a kid I wasn’t surrounded by diversity. That is until I entered Hume-Fogg, the magnet school on Broadway that looks like a castle. Going to high school there changed my world view and introduced me to friends of all races, religions, backgrounds, and social classes. My time there truly was the richest experience of my life, and for that I am beyond grateful. I remember our principal, Dr. Whitefield, saying we would be a “center of excellence,” and I looked around at our graduating class of 100 students and understood this was something special.
