I think May is my favorite time of year in Music City. We’re past the “great pollening” and everything is fully in bloom. It is green and lush….and warm! It’s hard not to be in a great mood when it’s beautiful out. This month we’re giving you some reasons to get out and explore the city with our Neighborhoods feature. I often find myself driving around and thinking, “Wait, when did that open up?” Or, “What’s that building?” A lot happened during the last two years that you might have missed. Have you spent time in Edgehill? The restaurants, the shopping, and some of the best glasses you can buy are all in a couple of blocks. One thing that I love about Nashville is its ability to grow and evolve while always staying true to itself. Nowhere is that more apparent than in this month’s issue. We’re spotlighting five neighborhoods that have blossomed seemingly overnight. And while each area has changed, it’s amazing to see them keep their old guard charm. In Wedgewood-Houston and Sylvan Park some of the coolest, newest businesses in Nashville are taking up residency in some historic buildings. And then there are McFerrin Park and Cleveland Park where economic growth is driving many homebuyers to purchase and reinvigorate some of the neighborhoods’ oldest and most charming homes. Giddy up, because the highly anticipated Iroquois Steeplechase returns to Percy Warner Park on May 14. The annual sporting and social event benefitting Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt attracts more than 25,000 spectators every year, and serves as Music City’s celebration of time-honored traditions, Tennessee hospitality, and Southern fashions. Over the past 39 years the Iroquois Steeplechase has donated over $11 million to the hospital, and, in addition to its primary beneficiary, the race meet also donates to other charities including the Friends of Warner Parks.
