Anorak Magazine

Anorak Magazine Volume 51 / Learning

Anorak is the Happy Mags for Kids. Aimed at children aged 6+, it contains beautifully illustrated stories, activities and themes, all designed to spark imagination and foster creativity. Anorak explores themes based on the National Curriculum such as Art, Our World, Under the Sea and Learning, or more philosophical themes such as Kindness or Friendships and fun themes such as Cakes! Unlike magazines of today, Anorak is not a throw away title. Just like much loved children’s magazines and annuals of the past it is designed to be collected, kept, handed down and revisited. “Anorak is what would happen if Monty Python, Ralph Steadman and René Magritte decided to make a magazine for children. It's anarchic, fun, laugh-out-loud strange and readable for kids of all ages.” —Huffington Post.

Dear ANORAK friends, It can be tons of fun, it can also be challenging. It can happen indoors, outdoors, with our eyes open or closed. We do it from the moment we’re born. Have you guessed what it is yet? It is… LEARNING! This magical activity is something we do every minute of the day without realising. We don’t even have to go to school to learn something, we can learn in the park, on the beach or even at home! In this brand new edition of our Happy Mags for Kids, we learn how we learn and what makes us learn. That’s a lot of LEARNING right there. Enjoy! Do you love drawing, reading books and having fun? Then you are qualified to join our Little Editors crew. To take part in fun drawing…

food is fun

Now that’s bananas! We know for a fact that bananas can’t talk or walk. But they can float. Wait, what? Yes they can! If you want the absolute proof, fill up a bucket with tap water. Take an unpeeled banana and drop it in the water. See? Yes! It floats! That’s because bananas are less dense than water. Magical. Ancient pop These days popcorn comes in all sorts of fun flavours. Which makes us think that popcorn is a very modern food. But actually, popcorn is old. Really old. Some popped kernels were recently discovered by archeologists in a cave in Peru and were believed to be over 5,000 years old. We wonder if they were tempted to taste them? Eeek. There’s a fly in my ice cream Did you really think we could make…

nature is fun

Kangaroos may be expert at hopping but they can only hop forwards. Due to their unusually large feet, they cannot hop backwards. If you want to find the heart of a shrimp, you will need to look at its head as that’s where it is located. Elephants can hear with their feet. They not only have excellent hearing thanks to their ears but they also can detect any rumbles with their feet. There is a type of mushroom called Bleeding Tooth Fungus that oozes blood-like liquid from its pores. If you are a pig, you will never be able to admire a starry sky. That’s because a pig’s necks cannot bend enough for them to look up. Swifts are beautiful European birds that have very long wings and very short feet. This means they don’t…

thinking is fun

ARE ROBOTS A GOOD THING OR A BAD THING? I don’t trust robots because they can become evil and take over the world. Ismael (8 years old) Robots are a bit useless to me. We don’t actually need them. We can do stuff ourselves. Aliyah (7 years old) It depends what they are for. I like the fun ones like R2-D2 in Star Wars but there can be some bad ones too. Giulia (6 years) I think robots are great, especially the ones that can clean things so we don’t have to do it ourselves. Sarah (9 years old) Robots are so cool. I’d like to have one to do my homework. Zara (8 years old) I think one day we will have robots to do everything for us, like take us to space, build buildings and drive cars. It will…
