How does one define or pick ‘The Best Restaurant’ in the country? Impossible, right? Food is like art. And everybody has different tastes, different likes and dislikes. My favourite food might be a hamburger and skinny, crispy fries with lots of salt, flaked not ground; your best meal may be a 12-course degustation menu with all the foams and froths and billowing bonito flakes; the next person may pick Asian food or bistro classics. You get the picture. And this is why we are so excited about our 2017 Gourmet Restaurant Awards in association with Discovery Vitality – in its second year and on the up – where we compare apples to apples. On trend Chocolate Gnocchi Starters are the new desserts! The combination of chocolate and potatoes may sound a little left field, but it harks back to the classic Mexican mole poblano – a savoury chocolate chilli sauce served with beef or chicken. Recipe overleaf CHOCOLATE GNOCCHI WITH PAPAYA & LIME Serves 6 1kg potatoes 200g flour, sifted 40g raw cacao powder pinch of salt 250g fresh cream juice and zest of 1 lime 40g white chocolate, grated 200g papaya mixed seeds, toasted 1.
