@rinas_footprints Marina Liekefett Marina, Good’s design intern, arrived in New Zealand from Germany this year after deciding to spend some time abroad following her graduation. “New Zealand seemed like the perfect country for me to do this. It’s the most beautiful country with big potential to explore, perfect for a person who is really into adventures and outdoor activities, like me!” Marina says her favourite part of design is seeing a new project grow and come to life. This summer she plans to spend four weeks road-tripping around the South Island with friends. @catherine_foster Catherine Foster Catherine Foster is a freelance writer with a specific interest in home design. She is the author of the phenomenally successful Small House Living and Apartment Living New Zealand. Check out an extract from her new book, Repurposed, which…

power lies in the choices we make

Go Good! We’re proud that Good designer Lisa Lodge won Best Designer ‘Lifestyle’ for the 3rd year in a row, and Good sales manager Cola Larcombe 2018 NZ Best Magazine Media Sales Person at the recent NZ Magazine Media Awards. You’ll notice a few things about this issue of Good. Firstly, if you’re a subscriber your magazine would have arrived back in its former recyclable plastic wrap and there’s a reason for that. Unfortunately and fortunately, depending on which way you look at it, the publicity created by Good using the compostable Compostic mailers to send out our last issue resulted in our supplier running out of stock! We are happy to report, however, that Compostic is currently working with our mailhouse distributor on an even better solution to streamline the process,…

IN THE SWIM Choosing a swimsuit is not high on the joy scale for most of us but we reckon the fact so many designers are now producing eco, ocean-friendly styles is a reason to smile. Closed loop Kowtow’s new sustainable swimwear line is made from Econyl (regenerated nylon). Kowtow has recycled 120kg of discarded nylon with this one range. And, it’s closing the loop by offering a ‘take back’ programme to repurpose the swimwear at the end of its life. kowtowclothing.com A sweet shoe Allbirds Tree Topper is made of eucalyptus fibre with just a touch of brushed wool, and Brazilian sugarcane SweetFoamTM soles. splore yourself

Yoga, massage and more Fitting in a yoga session in between gigs and a sea swim is totally doable at Splore festival 2019 held at seaside Tapapakanga Regional Park. “It’s a music festival with a wellbeing space,” says Splore Festival’s wellness programme coordinator Wendy Douglas. “Our audience likes to party but they also like to stay well and eat good food. It reflects the overarching theme of the festival and we are there to celebrate. It’s a place where people can have fun, and also break free from the festival, chill and discover something new.” ‘Celebrate!’ is the chosen theme for 2019 to mark Splore’s 20th birthday, which Douglas has woven through the ‘Wendy’s Wellness’ programme. Splore yoga sessions were fully attended in 2018, so Douglas has upped the yoga ante even more…
