welcome to the issue

FALL IS ON THE HORIZON, which means we’re ready to embrace a new season of great fashion and must-have accessories. Style comes easy for our cover star, Gwen Stefani, who shines in the metallics of the moment and opens up about family, fashion, and finding love again (page 144). Fresh neutrals make for a chic wardrobe reset (page 156), while luxe brocade works for any occasion (page 130). We’ve also rounded up the top 10 bags, boots, and shoes for the months ahead (page 100). And what a season it is. In this era of rampant individualism, there are plenty of options to embrace. It goes without saying that no one experiments with personal style better than this month’s cover star, Gwen Stefani, who oozes chicness whether wearing her rock ’n’ roll–infused line L.A.M.B. or a glorious sequined gown from Dolce & Gabbana. She puts on a brave front too, revealing to our own Laura Brown how she survived the emotional roller coaster of…

tells all

How did you get started at Jimmy Choo? I left home. I literally just took my bag and said, “Right, I’m going to London; that’s what I want to do.” Jimmy is married to my aunt, so I started helping out in the studio. I was surrounded by the machinery, patterns, and fabric, and the whole thing was really exciting. I had no idea how a shoe was made, but it all came alive. My mind was set up to do product. I can imagine in 3-D. What did you study in school? I studied fashion for about a month. All I wanted all my life was to go to Central Saint Martins and get into the fashion course, and right when I did, the Jimmy Choo thing happened. I was…
