hello!

Well, I’m excited! How could I not be with this month’s InStyle cover-palooza? It’s not just that we have five covers (actually 10 if you count our special subscriber editions); we have five covers featuring the women of Big Little Lies. I know I’m not alone in loving these women—Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, and Zoë Kravitz. They all have storied and thriving careers on their own and have come together to create one of the most addictive dramas on television. And they’ve done it right: with collaboration, representation, and real, lasting friendship. The actresses are making history onscreen, and the show really shines because they all have a history together.I had lunch with Reese last summer and tugged her sleeve about this cover. I wasn’t going…

WELL PLAYEDThank you for featuring Sesame Street in the April issue [p. 42]. My light reading turned into a morning of fashion with my toddler, Jameson!—ELIZABETH KELLEY, Columbus, OhioFOOD FOR THOUGHTYour April article on shopping diets [“Does My Closet Make Me Look Fat?” p. 50] was fascinating since I wanted the Givenchy sandals on the page before, and eight pages later, a Loeffler Randall bag was calling my name!—EILEEN MILLER, Midlothian, Va.So happy when I see women like me on the magazines.—@CANDIEDGIRLBOUTIQUECHARACTER EVOLUTIONSeeing [“Come and Play Dress-Up,” April, p. 42] in @instylemagazine made me much happier than it probably should have as a grown woman. I grew up with these characters (except Abby) and now my son is growing up with them. I love @sesamestreet so much. Happy 50th, Sesame…

It’s no easy feat to get the Monterey Five, aka the ladies of Big Little Lies, in the same locale. So it took two action-packed days, two venues, and a crew of over 50 people to keep the shoot, inspired by the visual allure of Valley of the Dolls, running on a tight schedule. Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley were the first to step in front of photographer Pamela Hanson’s lens, bringing their retro characters to life in a midcentury-modern Beverly Hills home. The following day, at an equally dreamy house in Pasadena, Nicole Kidman, Zoë Kravitz, and Reese Witherspoon took turns channeling 1960s glamour through a mix of soft pastels, bright prints, and classic pearls. Though the actresses enjoyed playing dress-up, we couldn’t help but turn our attention to…
