“hours of arguments, negotiation, and filibustering”

It’s that time again when we find ourselves looking back on a year of games, and plucking out the champions among them for adulation and praise. Hours of arguments, negotiation, and filibustering went into the feature within, but the worthy result is an indisputable list of 2019’s sweetest digital fruits. But, of course, we must continue to look forward as well – such as to Digital Extremes’ wildly ambitious new plans for its multiplayer behemoth Warframe. Whether you’re a fan, lapsed, or you’ve never tried it, the game has a fascinating history behind it and an incredible story still to tell – inside, both are laid bare. outside the box

Thanks to X019, Microsoft’s fan event, and BlizzCon, which you can read about in our special report, it’s been a month full of announcements and reveals. At the top of the list is Age of Empires IV. Announced in 2017, Relic’s been pretty quiet about the sequel since, but now we’ve had our first look at the game in action. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS, HALO WILL BE BACK ON PC It’s a departure from Relic’s grimdark 40k games and appropriately gloomy Company of Heroes. The battle shown off in the gameplay reveal is a sun-drenched scuffle between the Mongols and English. Brightly-coloured soldiers charge down hills and pour out of a cute model town, and it’s unmistakably Age of Empires, especially when the units start diving into the scrum and…

the spy

Why read the news when you can create the news? “But, The Spy,” you’re probably thinking, “how can I – a person who is sat reading this magazine – create videogame news?” Well, Daniel, the answer is simple: you just lie. Here is The Spy’s step-by-step guide to fabricating rumours that SEO-focused gaming verticals will find too irresistible to resist. Step 1: make a throwaway Reddit account. For added points, make sure the name is an obscure reference to an anime show. This will give you an air of mystique and credibility that many sites will find hard to ignore. NOBODY IS GOING TO BELIEVE YOUR TOO-GOOD-TO-BE-TRUE GTA VI RUMOURS Step 2: Choose the right game. Nobody is going to believe your too-good-to-be-true GTA VI rumours, but something a little less ambitious is…

ISSUE 209, January 2010 ON THE COVER Star Trek Online IN THE CINEMAS Avatar 1 They say that those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it, which is why we should take a stark, honest look at this issue’s Star Trek Online coverline. “Set nerdgasm to stun!” we wrote. On the cover of a magazine. It’s… not even a pun. It’s gibberish. Thank you for your continued patronage in spite of this fact. 2 You can’t buy the highest scoring game of this issue – Colin Mcrae: Dirt 2, 88% – digitally any more, because of the licensing issues. How easily our past vanishes… 3 The Top 100 is always a fun way to make some controversial statements about the state of PC gaming. In 2009’s list, PC Gamer claimed that Solitaire was the 82nd…
