sew to speak

Ho Ho Ho When I saw the pattern Ho Ho Ho from Quiltmaker (November/December ‘20) I knew it would fit perfectly in my stairwell where I place seasonal quilts. I can't wait to give it to her. Blessings on all you do and love. Rev. Jacquelyn R. Hall • Southbury, Connecticut Foxy Valentine When…

copyright and the quilter

The law protects certain uses for artists and quilters. It’s important to know how to use this, and what fair use is within the art context. What is Fair Use? Fair use is an important tool for artists and quilters. Many people have heard about fair use, but in this article, we’re going to take a quick deep dive to understand how it works, especially for creatives. Fair Use is found in 17 U.S.C. Section 107 of the U.S. Copyright Act. (https://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html#107) What the statute says is that sometimes it is OK for people to use a work that is still under copyright without permission or paying the copyright holder. That’s right. Sometimes we can use someone else’s work and it is totally legal. Copyright and our culture require us to have…
