There’s no doubt bakkies are a big deal in South Africa. The locally built models – the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara and new Isuzu D-Max – are beneficial to our economy and immensely popular on our roads. Many single-cab workhorses are put to hard labour for private businesses as well as government entities. Double-cabs also play the workhorse role and provide some additional seating for crew members. The leisure bakkie as we’ve come to know them, however, are expected to play an even wider variety of roles and are built to meet high expectations.
