As a reader quite rightly points out in this issue’s Letters pages, Classics Monthly is a hobby magazine and not a political one. That is why we have constantly striven to keep our focus very firmly on the cars and to provide you with an oasis of calm pleasure in a world that is always chaotic and often insane. Purchased new on 22nd July 1931 by Fred Woodhall, the Austin 12/4 travelled many thousands of miles in the UK as well as throughout Europe. In 1961 the car was passed first to the original owner’s son and then to his great grandson, Charles Clarkson, who has now donated it to the Great British Car Journey in Derbyshire. Despite being forgotten about for more than 40 years, the engine started…

Transport Museum Wythall is an exciting venue for any transport enthusiast. It tells the story of public transport in the West Midlands through a collection of over 90 buses, and all visitors are offered free bus rides on open days. Families are also catered for with a steam-powered miniature railway, a café, shop and children’s play area. Alongside the buses is a unique and varied collection of battery electric vehicles – milk floats, bread vans and even a post office delivery vehicle. For 2022 the museum has a new themed exhibition on the history of Birmingham City Transport allied to the city’s hosting of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
