Having recently gone to the separate world launches of the 2020 KTM, Husqvarna and Sherco enduro ranges, I came away with two overriding thoughts. One was just how impressive the model ranges were and how good we have it right now in terms of the quality of motorcycle available to the average trail basher. The other was how sad it is that of the four Japanese companies, three are missing from this picture. Having dropped the two-stroke and largely walked away from enduro racing and motorcycle production, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki have handed a massive slice of the market to the Europeans who, it must be said, are doing a damn fine job at taking it forward through innovation and giving the customer plenty of choice in model range. david walsh wins the 2019 tatts finke desert race

In his 12th attempt and in the box seat of a North Star Pastoral KTM factory ride, David Walsh has claimed victory in the 2019 Tatts Finke Desert Race. The local hero impressed on the KTM500EXC to claim victory from the Husqvarna duo of Jake Smith and Beau Ralston. Walsh had previously finished second three times to Toby Price. “I’m just completely blown away and I’m over the moon with getting my first win here at Finke,” said Walsh. “It’s truly a credit to the North Star Pastoral KTM Desert Racing Team because without those guys, I wouldn’t be here. Automotive Holdings Group has sold the remaining 74 per cent of its motorcycle importing business to KTM. I REALLY LIKE THE COMBINATION OF LIGHTWEIGHT FEEL AND QUICK RPM-STYLE POWER. IT ALMOST GIVES THE CRF AGILE, RM-Z-LIKE HANDLING What does it run like? Honda has always had a great 450 engine. It hasn’t been the most powerful, or the most aggressive, but it’s had a good spread of responsive, well-placed power across the entire rev range. For 2009, the EFI engine is more responsive, as it picks up swiftly and cleanly at any throttle setting. Power is ample, and maybe a tad tougher than this year — more in line with 2007 — but that is a pure seat-of-the-pants feel. I think there are 450s out there with more power, but few with the same combination of power, spread, torque and ease of use. The engine feels almost two-stroke like…
