Each spring, I get the itch to push outside the boundaries of my color comfort zone. I’m always game to try a shoe in a new hue (I’m obsessing over lavender and icy blue right now) or swap out my bedding for a palette that feels more on point with my current mood. Just like having more daylight can boost your mood—hello, sunshine!—your well-being is closely connected to the colors around you. How you decorate your space reflects what makes you happy. With that in mind, this year’s Color Issue covers the full spectrum and is all about powerful color combos: Cover star Garance Doré’s new home in L.A. is all calming neutrals with pops of cobalt (page 156); bold primaries meet cool graphic details at the Long Island cottage of…

ROSY FRIDMAN Interior Stylist COLOR CRUSH I love naturally tanned leather in subtle tones. DESIGN INSPIRATION Puglia, Italy, for its simple yet stunning architecture. The enormous vaulted ceilings typical of the region, called volta a stella, remind me of how important negative space really is. CULTURE FIX I’m currently watching French classic comedies again. Keeps my French alive. UPCOMING PROJECT Our home, a Queen Anne Victorian, has been a constant project since we moved to San Francisco. APRIL 2 Stylist and lifestyle blogger LaTonya Yvette’s new book, Woman of Color, candidly talks about the everyday (style and beauty) and the profound (womanhood and race). 9-14 Design royalty, on-the-rise talent, and straight-up interiors geeks gather in Milan to celebrate form and function at Salone del Mobile, where soon-to-be obsessions—like the latest collection from Dedar—are unveiled. 16 When Serena Mitnik-Miller and Mason St. Peter, the haute-groovy couple behind the General Store, offer tips on reinventing your space, you listen. Thankfully, they’re packaged beautifully in the pair’s now-out book, Abode: Thoughtful Living With Less. 18 Head to Bergdorf Goodman and enter the world of designer, Firmdale Hotels owner, and author of Design Thread, Kit Kemp, who has transformed the seventh floor into a showroom for her playful textiles, furniture, and accessories. + A new Sonder…

you’ve seen them while tapping through your feed—those clay-dappled artisans hard at work at the wheel—or maybe you’ve clocked that your friends are suddenly into ceramics, posting hero shots of new mugs and commenting on glazes. Indeed, Instagram has become a major calling card for emerging ceramists, renewing an interest in an art form that practically predates civilization. From BZippy & Co.’s monochromatic Brutalism to Mari Masot’s vibrant geometric vessels, indie brands are presenting their unique creations in a format that makes art more accessible and acquirable. Those oddly satisfying molding videos and finely crafted finished products seem to be jumpstarting a hands-on movement, too. “In the two years since I founded my ceramics business, I can’t count the number of people who have told me they couldn’t wait to take…

Wear for 10 to 30 minutes a day, and let the benefits, real or placebo, wash over you. PERFECT YOUR PALETTE Something as simple as wall color can dramatically change the vibe of your surroundings—and it can affect your mood, too. These color-expert recommendations will help you feel your best in each area of your home. ENTRYWAY Farrow & Ball A welcoming entryway should have enveloping colors, advises Erik Runner, Los Angeles showroom manager and color consultant for Farrow & Ball.
