statement style

You’ve probably created a feature wall at some point. Transformed a room with a splash of colour or a contained explosion of wallpaper. But here’s an idea to step up your statement wall game – create one that is entirely about showcasing your antiques collections. Use your treasured finds to create a spectacular display, and it will be totally unique to you. This month, our photoshoot team has developed six statement looks by styling collectables with striking wallcoverings, and the results are extraordinary. Prepare to be inspired from page 42. These aren’t the only statements to be found amid this month’s pages. With its yellow floor and vintage fuchsia chairs, our cover house is not for the colour shy! Artist owner Trevor Burgess has created a bold, dynamic space by restoring an…

A BID FOR LOVE I’m quite jealous of the bidder who won this fun ‘Passion Tester’ at auction. What a talking point! THE MOTHER It’s hard to pick out just one antique from our photoshoot, but the detail on this Parian bust is incredible. A Fantastic Read The April magazine was so inspirational, with fantastic articles about crafts. It was entirely due to Homes & Antiques that I started going to auctions many years ago, where I started to buy old chairs. I went to classes to learn how to restore the woodwork and reseat them with cane and rushes. Then, some years later, I started quilting, which resulted in several bed covers and many cushions. I bought much of my fabric from British Heart Foundation charity shops – it’s amazing how much fabric goes into a man’s shirt! I will look forward to the May edition, and my next-door neighbour will too. So will the local hairdresser after that! Rima Martin, via email A Breath of Fresh Air I was delighted, as a 94-year-old H&A fan, to…
