gold rush

Can it be four years since Danny Boyle kicked off the 2012 Olympic Games with his joyful opening ceremony (remember that NHS tribute!)? And Jessica Ennis-Hill and Mo Farah made the nation roar when they smashed their way to gold, and we all felt proud that little old Blighty could pull off such a spectacular show? While the build-up to Rio is mired with the dreadful Zika virus, I know once the Games start, I’ll be tuning in. I find the athletes’ discipline, endurance and desire to win compelling. Talent is a must for success, but getting a podium place is all about having the mental edge, apparently. This month, we interview sportswomen and their psychologists on how to train your mind to win (page 167). I think that’s more…

wear-forever hits

RAW IS MORE Denim gets a fray-over for AW16, giving your jeans a new fashion edge. Extra style points for the mismatched hem, too. Your wear-with-everything knit Move over, summer tee – the only layering piece you need is a skinny rib knit. GREAT LENGTHS Work, weekends, holiday – the maxi dress oozes versatility, and this season it comes in ditsy floral form. Bold boots Kick plain styles to the curb and up the fashion pace in these decorative beauties. From blossoms to brocade, fill your boots. Gleam team Not just for after dark, get your sparkle on in standout sequins. It’s time to shine 24/7. PUFFA UP Forget looking like the Michelin Man, the puffa jacket has been revamped for 2016 in an array of cool colours. Cosy does it. GAME ON Yes, we’re going off-piste, but the ski pant might just…

style or store?

STYLE THE SLIP DRESS Make summer’s slinky staple go the distance by teaming it with a roll-neck or a blouse. STYLE THE PLEATED SKIRT Master the art of layering with this simple fashion formula: pleated skirt + statement knit + roll-neck + winter coat = one stylish winter-ready look. STORE MANNISH SLIDES They’ll come around again, but for now, park the slides – it’s all about directional block heels worn with socks. STORE TRACKSUIT TOPS But keep the bottoms . Take them from off-duty to office-appropriate by styling with a white shirt and loafers. STYLE THE TOP-HANDLE BAG Update your arm candy with a guitar strap (try Anya Hindmarch), and wear it across the body à la Prada and Gucci. STYLE THE SUMMER BLOUSE Revamp with a simple black ribbon for the fastest style fix ever. STORE PYJAMA TOPS PJ dressing has reached…

my style 9 to 5

Every woman should own a ‘superwoman’ costume. It’s that one outfit that makes you feel great, no matter what. My look embodies how I am feeling that day. If I am feeling casual I might opt for dungarees and trainers; if I’m feeling more professional, I’ll add a heel. I love that no one tells me what to do in my job. I am my own boss in every area of my life – including my wardrobe. Make your presence felt through clothing. Statement pieces with big, bold shapes, colours and prints are a great way to add impact and get noticed. My top wardrobe tip is to hang everything . This way, you can see all your options every day and dress according to your mood. I’m a huge high-street fan. I love Zara,…
