editor’s letter

On Christmas morning, as my children excitedly rip apart the painstakingly wrapped gifts I’ve assembled for them, I often wonder which are the ones that will linger in their hearts and minds over the years and decades to come. For me it was a Snoopy watch I received as a shy eight-year-old, which surprised and delighted me, garnering much admiration from my friends, regardless of the nasty rash the plastic strap brought out on my wrist. Some years later, as a desperate-to-be-cool teenager, a wool bed jacket from an aunt provoked many guffaws and much incredulity. But on one particularly cold night I actually tried wearing it in bed and found myself unwittingly falling for its cosy charms, plus its ability to transport me to the world of the Jane…

all that glitters

Shine on If ‘loud and proud’ is your modus operandi, then AW17 is your season. Blazers are key, so this H&M X Erdem collaboration piece will be just your vibe. Team with an evening dress and statement heels, and all the bling that you can find for the office party. 80s hits If you prefer more subtle pieces over full-on flashy, simply accessorise your look with a sparkly brooch, like this one from Pinko (above right). Or why not embrace the season’s 80s revival by pairing a mini with stirrup leggings? All the trimmings All-out glam isn’t for everyone. Instead, opt for cool accessories with a hint of glitz, such as these embellished sliders (above). Not a fan of frocks? Try a trouser suit in a punchy standout shade. ermanno scervino

‘When I was a child, I remember the elegant ladies who visited the mountains of Cortina’ In a temperamental fashion climate that can veer wildly from oversized men’s tailoring one minute to a retro mishmash the next, Tuscan designer Ermanno Scervino is building an empire by sticking to his guns. Born and raised in the Florentine hills, his surname is actually Daelli. The name Scervino belongs to his business partner Toni, who he teamed up with nearly two decades ago. ‘Growing up in Italy has been fundamental to my aesthetic, because beauty was always around me,’ he says. ‘A feature of all my looks is sensuality, but never vulgar.’ After a visit to the resort of Cortina, the designer identified a gap in the market for sexy skiwear, and his luxurious, fitted…
