Bushmills To Double Capacity…. Bushmills will invest over $77 million throughout the next five years as it looks to double production capacity by 2024. Launched in April 2017, the 41% abv Bushmills Red Bush ($23 a 750-ml.) has shown huge potential, the company says, nearly doubling its sales last year. Now, Bushmills is rolling out a new ad campaign for Red Bush—which is a blend of single malt and single grain whiskey matured in first-fill Bourbon casks—called “Red. Set. Go.” Produced by Vice Media’s commercial studio Virtue, the 60-second spot depicts young Belfast adults having a night out in back alleys and underground clubs. Marvin R. Shanken, the chairman and founder of M. Shanken Communications, Inc., received the lifetime achievement award from the Association of Magazine Media on February 5 in downtown Manhattan. Shanken is the editor and publisher of Market Watch, Impact, Shanken News Daily and the new Shanken News Daily Cannabis Edition, Wine Spectator, Whisky Advocate, and Cigar Aficionado, as well as numerous digital properties. After a video introduction by the famed sportscaster Jim Nantz, Condé Nast International chairman Jonathan Newhouse welcomed Shanken and presented him with the award. “Marvin belongs to the elite coterie of magazine makers, the geniuses of our business,” said Newhouse. Washington, D.C.: Todd Thrasher Unveils Tiki Bar And Distillery Celebrated bartender Todd Thrasher launched a spirits-focused project in December, opening the bar Tiki TNT inside his new venture, Potomac Distilling Co., in Washington, D.C.’s District Wharf area. Thrasher, who is well known in the cocktail scene within and around the nation’s capital, unveiled the concept in a three-story space along the Potomac River. A Polynesian-style venue, Tiki TNT boasts several bar areas, including a rooftop garden space. Its menu lists classic and contem-porary tiki cocktails ($14), from an El Dorado 12-year-old rum-based Mai Tai and Thrasher’s White rum-based Piña Colada to the Feel Better And Get Well, made with Jameson Irish whiskey, Thrasher’s Gold rum, The Bitter Truth lemon bitters, and house-made falernum. Old Forester Rye Brown-Forman has extended its Old Forester whiskey brand with a straight rye. Inspired by the recipe for Normandy rye—a discontinued brand originally acquired by Brown-Forman in 1940—Old Forester Rye has a mash bill of 65% rye, 20% malted barley, and 15% corn. The 50% abv whiskey ($23 a 750-ml.) is available nation-wide. For more information, visit Coopers’ Craft Barrel Reserve Brown-Forman has also extended its Coopers’ Craft Bourbon brand with a new, higher-proof expression. Coopers’ Craft Barrel Reserve (around $32 a 750-ml.) is matured in new charred oak barrels that have been chiseled to allow more interaction between whiskey and wood.
