Liquid gold by Piotr Skrzypiec On this particular morning, everything went wrong. My alarm clock didn’t wake me up, I was snowed in and my car struggled to start. I decided to head out anyway. When I finally put my tripod on the frozen meadow near Spodnja Luša I realised that sometimes it’s worth being stubborn. The whole scene lit up with this magical orange glow. Canon 5D MkII | 135mm | 1/8sec | f/11 | ISO 100 Piotr Skrzypiec is a Polish landscape photographer currently based in Slovenia. NIKON DSLR packs mirrorless tech Nikon took to the CES tech convention to announce a slew of new products recently. The Japanese camera brand unveiled the latest entry to its full-frame DSLR range in the form of the D780, a follow-up to the hugely popular D750. Packing a 24.5MP sensor, it aims to combine the familiarity of a DSLR with the flexibility of mirrorless. The optical viewfinder gives a traditional shooting experience, with access to a 51-point phase detection AF system, full autofocus modes and 7fps continuous shooting. However, using the 3.2in 2359k-dot tilting touchscreen opens up a wealth of new opportunities. There are 273 points of on-sensor phase detection to cover 90% of the frame vertically and horizontally, a maximum 12fps continuous shooting in silent Live View and Eye-Detection AF. Video is…

Olympus PEN 2 With Olympus having updated some of its most loved cameras of late, it could be time for the PEN-F to receive some love. We imagine this classic would be in-line to be fitted with the latest 20.4MP sensor, 121-point phase detection autofocus system and even include 4K video. It would also receive the expanded Live filters, including Live ND and Live Bulb, as well as new colour profiles. olympus.co.uk Canon 5D MkV Canon’s 5D series is the solid backbone of its prosumer range, and one of the most popular cameras of all time. We believe Canon could be lining up a release for later this year that will see the mighty 5D series inherit the DIGIC X processor, a newer 45MP sensor and uncropped 4K video. It may also be…

ABSTRACT #1 Think creatively ADDING A NEW TWIST to such an iconic piece of artwork, one that’s been around for over half a century, is a great way to force yourself to think outside the box, as John Cuthbert (flickr.com/ photos/106737096@N08) has done here. “I’ve always loved art, creating, designing and constructing, and I try to convey that in my imagery. On one particularly grey and dark day, I decided to stay indoors and put my own take on the famous Creation of Adam by Michelangelo – the painting of God and Adam’s near-touching hands. So, with a set of plumber’s wrenches, I fashioned a fork into a hand shape, placed it on a piece of plain A4 paper on a tabletop, and then used off-camera flash on a stand, triggered by the…
