To paraphrase a quote: Spring has sprung, the grass is riz, look how lovely all you brides is! Welcome to the spring edition of Queensland Brides. It’s one of the most glorious times of the year in our fair state, and the perfect time to start planning a wedding – or to get married. We’ve got some truly magical real weddings in this issue, including the exotic three-day spectacle of Shae and Chatura (p74), the colourful celebrations of Tamara and Tim (aka Tim Tam) on the Sunshine Coast (p99) and the riotous night in Tropical North Queensland that brought together the globetrotting Sophie and Clint (p143). Putting together a magazine like QB can be a challenge at the best of times, but this issue was “special”. Not to bang on…

confetti the delightful and the diverting

VINTAGE QB Feast your eyes on this beauty. Let us take you back to 1984 – a time when puffy sleeves reigned supreme, technicolour fake roses were a bridal must-have and the very first edition of Queensland Brides was released. With tips on everything from ‘Correct Wedding Apparel’ and first home buying, to planning your bridegroom’s calendar and birth control, our first edition was launched in fabulous, rainbow-trimmed style. That dress. That hair. That everything. This award-winning (no, that’s not a typo) “Rainbow Fantasy” gown featured on our front cover was actually inspired by Kermit the Frog’s Rainbow Connection. Yeah, because a singing puppet frog just screams bridal. CANDLE CRUSH This fragrant candle from Celebrations by Alysia is absolutely gorgeous and absolutely massive. While ours is currently gracing the QB desk, we can only…

Say Yes to the Dress IS COMING TO AUSTRALIA! Whether it’s one of your guilty pleasures or you whole-heartedly admit your love for it, you have to admit this is kind of a big deal. Launching on TLC later this year, Say Yes to the Dress: Australia will go behind the scenes of a Sydney bridal salon for a – hopefully – healthy dose of dresses and drama. We. Can’t. Wait. LUXE LOUNGING We’re loving these sexy Australian-designed luxury robes from our friends at Summer and East. Sleek, feminine and exquisitely soft, each robe hugs in all the right places and is perfect for those ‘getting ready’ photos with your bridesmaids. Designed in a collection of opulent colours, Summer and East’s robes will make you feel like a silver screen starlet for the…

LOVE IS IN THE AIR – AND ON THE WALLS Fancy a giant flower wall with a difference? Komar’s range of romantic photomurals will make your wedding as pretty as a picture. Decorate your reception venue with a wall of blooming roses or blossoming orchids, or adorn the space with your own DIY wallpaper bunting. komar.de VANISHING ACT Remember that scene in Bride Wars when Anne Hathaway turned an unflattering shade of orange right before the big day? We bet she wished she had this complexion-saving product. The organic fake tan removal soap and scrub, Vanish Envy, takes the stress and mess out of removing your temporary glow. Amen to that! envyuskincare.com STOP AND SMELL THE ROSÉ Just when you thought gummi bears couldn’t get any better, a gourmet candy boutique has gone and made…

THE NAME GAME We’ve all heard of page boys and flower girls, but there are some brilliant modern alternatives. Two of our favourites? “Ring Security” (think boys in smart suits and black sunglasses, protecting the wedding bands) and “Puppy Wranglers” (for weddings with kids andpets!). Think outside the box, people. THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT Tips for dressing the younger members of your bridal party It’s a pretty safe bet that when you were a little girl you dreamed of being a flower girl (or a unicorn, but that’s a different story). Guaranteed to steal the spotlight at any wedding, children make the day truly memorable, but admittedly come with their own set of challenges. Not sure how to keep the younger members of your bridal party looking their very cutest? Specialising in children’s occasion…
