shackleton antarctic protector parka

Now it’s undeniably been pretty brisk of late but this parka is built to withstand conditions far frostier than a winter wander round the Cotswolds. Produced in collaboration with Blue Marine Foundation, Shackleton’s Antarctic Protector Parka is designed for the NGO’s field operatives working in the continent’s coastal zones – notoriously the most damp, blustery and bitterly cold conditions on the planet. But if this climate sounds like an average day in your garden or – more likely – you’re planning some mountain treks in the not-too-distant future, you’re in luck: Shackleton has 100 of these jackets for sale to consumers. Their 3-ply fabric outer layer has a waterproof rating of 20,000hh while their sustainably sourced goosedown inner can keep you warm at temperatures as low as-25°C. And for each…

editor’s letter

Given we’re locked in a perpetual Groundhog Week, it can be difficult to gauge the passage of time since major milestones. It feels like it was just yesterday I was dressing up as the Greek god Pan, waving around a fistful of sparklers and quaffing a cubic metre of egg nog. In fact, thinking about it: maybe that was yesterday. Either way, I’m sure you’ll share my feelings that March has come round awful quick. 2021 is proceeding both interminably and with alarming rapidity, like a thawing glacier. So it’s time to start looking forward to the future again and anticipating some of the exciting things coming our way. That’s why we’ve spent the meat of this issue profiling the most desirable gadgets arriving this year, from delicious displays and sensational speakers…

t3’s mission

Our mission is to bring you the clearest recommendations we can – and that means a great deal of hard work happens before a product even reaches our pages! Because we only feature products the T3 team would happily use ourselves, we end up discarding a significant number of options in each category before settling on a final shortlist to review. We select only the best of the best for our Tested section; the gear we know you’ll want to seriously consider purchasing. And that should mean an end to you having to undertake hours of painstaking research and product comparisons. You won’t see any duff products, but you will come away with clarity on which one is the best in its category or for a specific task: our awards badges (see…

1 PHILIPS 9636 PREMIUM • £TBC, philips.co.uk Philips’ TV division has been growing fast in recent years. The company’s patented Ambilight tech allows it to offer something completely unique to the market, its partnership with Bowers & Wilkins adds solid audio offerings to its TV lineup, and there’s no shortage of exploration in the design department, which is something of a rarity in a sea of black rectangle TVs. Now Philips seems to be placing itself directly ahead of the curve: its latest LCD TV salvo, due in the summer alongside a raft of OLEDs, totes mini LED tech. Dropping at two sizes, really big (65-inch) and probably too big (75-inch), the top-end 9636 Premium (to be released alongside the same-sized but slightly downgraded 9506 Premium) certainly packs in the features, pairing the…

the bomb squad

1 REISS WARREN WOOL BLEND ZIP UP JACKET A tailored bomber that passes as a smart overshirt. Reiss has crafted it from a sumptuous blend of wool-infused fabrics, with a heavier weight to rest over jumpers. £195, johnlewis.com 2 OLIVER SPENCER FUNNEL NECK BOMBER JACKET Patterned bombers are a hot ticket for spring, but if bold prints bring you out in hives, play it safe with this toasty-warm, basketwoven wool camo bomber. £379, oliverspencer.co.uk 3 SHEARLING-TRIMMED COTTON-BLEND TWILL JACKET We love the warm, snug collar on this jacket. The overall look is smart and crisp, but navy isn’t as severe or dressy as black, so this will work with jeans too. £295, mrporter.com 4 TED BAKER UTILITY BOMBER JACKET Nab Ted’s bomber and you’ll be nailing two big spring trends in one: utility and bombers. It’s windproof and water-resistant, with…
