A Log You’ll Love The ancient custom of burning decorated logs to celebrate the season has morphed into a tastier tradition. Star t with a rolled gingerbread cake and add optional chocolate “bark ” to finish the log-like look. See page 20. That’s a Cool Yule Go ahead: Frost and freeze. (Except for the bark, because it hates the bitter cold. Put it on right before serving. Or skip it.) First, freeze cake 2 hours to set the frosting. Wrap in plastic wrap; return to freezer for up to a week. To serve, thaw in the fridge overnight; let stand at room temp 30 minutes before adding bark and slicing.
