google unveils final version of android oreo

Google has unveiled the final version of Android 8.0, aka Oreo. We explain the new features coming to your Android device. Release date The search giant unveiled the Developer Preview of Android O in March 2017, ahead of its May Google I/O Developer’s Conference. Since then we’ve had various public betas, and on 21 August Google announced the final version. It will begin rolling out the OTA update to Pixel and Nexus devices soon, but right now is pushing Oreo only to Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for other manufacturers to begin working on their own updates. Those on the public beta will also be updated to the final version from today. Google states: “We’re pushing the sources to Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for everyone to access today. Pixel and Nexus 5X/6P…

jumper ezbook 3 pro

£192 inc VAT from fave.co/2werE3z If you’re looking for a decent-size yet portable Windows 10 laptop on a budget, the Jumper EZBook 3 Pro may impress. Available from GearBest for just £192.10 you’d be hard pressed to find better value for money in a laptop of this size. You will need to additionally factor in import duty, however, which is calculated at 20 percent of the value on the shipping paperwork, plus an admin fee of around £11. In return for your money you get a aluminium laptop with a 13.3in full-HD screen, running the Intel Apollo Lake N3450 quad-core processor with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage (you can add more if required via an M.2 SSD or SD slot). There’s dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 support, plus two USB…

gamepad digital pocket

£379 inc VAT from fave.co/2werE3z When we first set eyes on the Pocket we thought it was a gimmick. Who is really going to use a Windows 10 laptop with a 7in screen and a fiddly mouse button? Well I’ll tell you who would: me. (And it’s not because I’m a woman, GPD.) Despite looking like a toy, the GPD Pocket is amazingly powerful – for a tiny laptop, that is. It’s on par with the other Chinese budget laptops we’ve reviewed, and no less impressive than any of the Chuwi or Jumper models, for example. It’s a little bit more expensive than those devices, costing £379.23 from GearBest (also factor in import duty at 20 percent of the value on the shipping paperwork plus an admin fee of around £11), but we…

sony xperia xa1

£229 inc VAT from fave.co/2mPPyPM Sony’s Xperia XA1 offers 23Mp stills (as well as facial recognition and a bunch of nice photographic features) for £229. We test out the camera and feature set, as well as putting the phone through our rigorous battery of processor and graphics tests, to help you work out if this is the device for you. Design The XA1 has an appealingly neat, simple look. Viewed front-on it’s a blocky design, with comparatively square corners, but this is offset by a very slight curvature on the left and right-hand edges of the screen. There’s a refreshing lack of gumpf on the back, too: just a single camera lens and accompanying flash top left (these are arranged vertically, which seems to be the vogue this year) and a couple of discreet…

nokia 3

£129 inc VAT from fave.co/2wPMo07 Nokia is back, and with it comes new Android phones. HMD Global, a Finnish startup, is using the Nokia brand to bring the new phones to the market, as well as a reboot of the famous and much-loved Nokia 3310. Here, we take a closer look at the Nokia 3, the cheapest in the new range. Design The Nokia 3 has a 5in, 1280x720 Gorilla Glass screen housed in a compact polycarbonate body, with a rounded aluminium frame that looks impressively premium considering its price tag, and a soft-touch finish to the back of the body. Obviously that resolution is a little lower than you might hope for these days, but once you factor in the smaller form factor it still delivers 294 pixels per inch, and the visuals…

samsung galaxy note8

Ahhh. I see what you did there, Samsung. By releasing a Galaxy Note8 that looks and feels remarkably like the Galaxy S8+ (a phone most Android enthusiasts would love to have in their pockets), you stand to dissolve all the bad mojo associated with the Galaxy Note 7 (a phone most Android enthusiasts would consign to a fireproof safe). Seriously, with a 6.3in, curved-glass display and remarkably slim bezels, the Note8 is an S8+ doppelgänger. It’s got the same 2:1 aspect ratio – which delivers copious screen real estate, without all the bulk—and only a 0.1in increase in display size, a second rear camera, and the addition of an S Pen really differentiate the Note8 visually from its less productivity-focused stablemate. The fingerprint sensor is even slapped on the back, just like…
