LESLEY TEARE “I’ve been very lucky to call my designing career ‘work’, as so much of the time it has been an absolute joy. When I started 35 years ago, the magazines incorporated a mixture of all types of needlework and since then the development of the cross stitch magazine has gone from strength to strength so that now you can find one that will suit your design likes and stitching abilities. It’s you, our wonderful community of stitchers, along with our fabulously…

If we’re not wearing our cosy pyjamas on Christmas Day, we want to be decked out in beautiful vintage dresses, fitted at the waist with full skirts that make us want to twirl round and round – just like those on show in this classic stitch based on Siobhan’s original illustration. We love the fashions that these 1950s ladies are wearing – though we may skip the heels for our Rudolph slippers instead! Stitched on 14-count blush aida, this is a great design to choose if you are working with coloured fabric for this first time. The subtle pink brings warmth to the scene – like a sip of a hot mulled cider – but won’t make it harder to spot the holes you need for your stitches. It also lets…
