it’s a job … taking care of the mechanics and appearance of your corvette

“Take care of your Corvette” isn’t just a saying but, rather, a commitment. Now, I would never be one to profess that taking care of your Corvette is more important than taking care of your kids (but there are times!). However, there’s a similar value of commitment and effort required. Once you do have the kids down for the night, properly fed, all tucked away and you’ve spent quality time with them now would be a good time to take stock of what’s going on in your garage. In the interim, maintenance of any vehicle we own is an important responsibility. Let’s face it, our cars—and especially Corvettes—represent a significant financial investment. All of us to varying degrees attempt to take care of the basics on our daily drivers … wash…

“… because he likes to go fast”

What do you do if your 535ci, nitrous-injected Corvette just isn’t fast enough? Well, if it’s 1978 and you’re corporate jet entrepreneur Herb Orlowitz, you call your friend Vince Granatelli (son of “Mr. 500” Andy Granatelli) and ask him to build something “really fast.” As Peter Frey told the story in the Nov. 1979 issue of Motor Trend, Granatelli at first offered Orlowitz one of the turbine-powered Lotus 56s that ran the Indy 500 in 1968, the Graham Hill car that had been recently restored. But Orlowitz wanted something street legal, so Granatelli stepped up to the challenge. A Corvette was deemed the most suitable platform for such a beast because “its high performance capabilities were a known factor,” wrote Frey. Also, the car’s long nose would accommodate the Pratt and Whitney…

a guide on how to change the coolant in your c4 corvette

Q: Hello to everyone at Vette magazine, I recently bought my father’s Corvette and it seems to be running a little hot. When I checked the coolant it looks very dirty and there is a lot of red, muddy rust around the radiator cap. I would like to do a coolant flush. Is this just as simple as draining and refilling the coolant? Thanks, Mark A: Mark, it’s great to see these Corvettes being passed down from generation to generation. When the cooling system becomes contaminated, the cooling system should be flushed thoroughly to remove the contaminants before the engine is seriously damaged from not cooling correctly. Some common problems from contaminated coolant can range from the radiator or heater core becoming partly stopped up from the rust, head gasket problems from the system not cooling…

1960 corvette restomod with endless reliability and style

Caution! Reading the following feature about this restomoded 1960 Corvette in its entirety will greatly increase your propensity to experience a range of emotions, including—but not limited to—jealousy, longing, envy, joy, sorrow and/or the desire to spend copious amounts of time and money in attempts to replicate. Consider yourself forewarned. Michael Suppo of Medina, Ohio, is a Corvette guy through and through, owning multiple examples over the years. In recent times, he got his hands on a couple cream-of-the-crop ’67s that most would die for, but what he really wanted was a C1. More specifically, he loved the styling of the ’59 and ’60 model years and, being that he was born in 1960, that narrowed it down even more. “I’ve always been looking for a ’60,” Suppo told us, but…
