support those who support us

IT NEVER FAILS to surprise me how many shooters are not members of any of the big organisations that represent our sport. Shooting in all its various forms faced some serious attacks last year, and there will no doubt be many more in 2020. When our backs are against the wall it is the strength in numbers and expertise provided by our official organisations that has the greatest influence. We should all get behind them in whatever way we can because they wouldn’t exist without members. Between the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), The Countryside Alliance, the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust and the National Gamekeepers Organisation there are certainly plenty to choose from – not that I’m suggesting that anyone should feel obliged to join them all. The…

wide angle winner

No doubt about it, there’s a definite trend for smaller, lighter PCPs these days, as witnessed by the multitude of bullpups that are currently on offer – with plenty more still to come. So there’s been a corresponding desire for more minimalistic scopes to match, such as the Airmax 30 Touch. In this case, minimalistic refers only to the size and weight of this scope, as its features and accessories are anything but. The Touch is referred to as a scope offering zero eye relief. In fact the distance between your eye and the ocular lens is roughly 3cm when looking through this sight, but the ocular focus ring itself can be placed very close to your face, even touching it if you want, hence the name. This helps create a scope…

news in brief quick shots...

A KNIFE FOR FOREST AND FIELD One of Casström’s most versatile knives for the airgun shooter is the No.10 Swedish Forest Knife, and the model shown here comes with a black Micarta handle and stainless steel blade, as well as a black leather sheath. This robust full-tang knife is great for general bushcraft tasks, but it’s dextrous enough for paunching and jointing a rabbit or squirrel, or for breasting a woodpigeon. The blade is about 10cm long and made from 3.8mm thick Swedish 14c28n stainless knife steel. It’s been heat treated to achieve a hardness of 57-59 HRC. The knife has been ground with a shaving sharp full flat grind. This knife costs £94. See www.casstrom.co.uk for more details. A DIAMOND FOR THE ROUGH Nikko Stirling has released a new range of first focal…

get it right with the right-angle

While any one of the ProTac torch series is ideal for use by airgun shooters, the ProTac 90 Right-Angle Flashlight is slightly different because it features a 90-degree head. You can carry it in your hand, attach it to your clothing or strap it on your backpack for hands-free illumination, and it can also be clipped to a belt or harness. The torch can even be switched on when it’s in its fabric holster, thanks to the position of the button. It’s not just for shooters though, as the right-angled nature of the torch means it can be carried in the same hand as a lead when walking your dog, leaving your other hand completely free. It’s been called a “multi-fuel” flashlight, as it can take CR123, AA Alkaline or AA Lithium…

give yourself the edge

We take eye safety very seriously here at Airgun Shooter, and eye protection is an absolute must for shooting particular disciplines at certain distances. But shooting glasses don’t just protect your eyes from errant ricochets, they can actually enhance your vision in specific lighting conditions – and that’s where Riley Edge Spotlight shooting glasses come into play. These glasses are supplied as a set rather than a single pair, the idea being to select the appropriate lens for the weather and lighting conditions you find yourself shooting in to enhance your clarity of vision. In addition the impact-resistant polycarbonate glasses are anti-scratch, anti-fog and moisture-repellent on both sides of the lens, and also provide UV 400 protection. The set also comes with a prescription insert and Riley can provide you with your…
