motor shows are back with a look into the future

Visit autoexpress.co.uk for all the latest new cars news HOW we’ve missed motor shows. It seems like a lifetime ago that the 2020 Geneva Motor Show was being cancelled, car reveals all went online and we wondered whether we’d ever be back in a show hall again. The world has changed so much in a relatively short period of time and the Munich Motor Show – which won the battle for German motor show Euros with traditional host city Frankfurt – is well under way. As a tentative toe back into the motor show waters, not every car brand is in Munich. The locals are very much out in force, but the rest of the world’s car makers have been keeping a watchful eye on things – with some jumping in seemingly at…

sean_carson@autovia.co.uk ● Mégane family hatch enters the electric age in E-Tech Electric form ● 60kWh battery gives 292-mile range; on sale February 2022 RENAULT has revealed the all-new fifth-generation Mégane family car. Called the Mégane E-Tech Electric, the new model is an all-electric five-door crossover that’s set to rival the Volkswagen ID.3. It’s the first production car to make its debut following the announcement of the French firm’s Renaulution electrification strategy, and will go on sale next February. It’s also the first of Renault’s ‘Generation 2.0’ electric vehicles and is based on the brand’s CMF-EV platform, designed specifically for battery-powered models. The E-Tech Electric will be available with either a 40kWh or a 60kWh battery, offering a maximum range of 186 and 292 miles respectively. Rapid charging at 130kW allows a 15 to 80 per cent…

jogger is uk’s cheapest s even-seater

sean_carson@autovia.co.uk ● New family car will also be Dacia’s first hybrid model ● Prices to start from around £13,000, on sale in November DACIA has revealed its all-new Jogger seven-seat family car, which will be the budget brand’s first hybrid model. According to Dacia, the Jogger mixes the practicality of an estate car with the spaciousness of an MPV and the character of an SUV, and with prices to start from around €15,000 – or just under £13,000 – when it goes on sale in November, the Jogger looks set to be the most affordable seven-seater on the market. The Jogger has a clear lifestyle focus, with 200mm of ground clearance and SUV-inspired styling, which is matched by plenty of practicality. At just over 4.5 metres, it’s the longest Dacia in the line-up and…

eqg to feature g-class underpinnings

THIS is the latest Mercedes EQ concept: the EQG, which previews an all-electric version of the brand’s legendary G-Class, slated for arrival in 2024. The angular silhouette retains many of the model’s most distinctive features, such as the indicators mounted on top of the front wings. However, instead of housing a spare wheel, the tailgate’s lockable box is more suited to storing charging cables, says Mercedes. The firm is keen to stress that the EQG will remain an uncompromising off-roader, and as such it’s not built on a pure-electric platform. Instead, the tough ladder-frame chassis of the existing G-Class will be fitted with an electric powertrain, plus a two-speed transmission with low-range setting.…

eqejoins mercedes’all-electric line-up

James_Brodie@autovia.co.uk @jimmybrods ● EV sits alongside the E-Class saloon ● Range is likely to be more than 400 miles THIS is the Mercedes EQE – an all-electric counterpart to the E-Class saloon and the second model in Mercedes’ EQ line-up to be based on a purpose-made electric car platform. Like the EQS, the EQE makes use of the EVA2 platform and will be built at the firm’s largest factory in Bremen from mid-2022. The EQE is slightly longer, wider and taller than the E-Class saloon, while its 3,120mm wheelbase is longer than that of the China-only E-Class Long Wheelbase limo. Allied to the aerodynamic four-door coupé shape, the EQE is more in line with the CLS than anything else in the brand’s combustion-engined line-up. It takes plenty of design inspiration from its larger EQS sibling, featuring…

luxurious eqs suv here next year, with a maybach to follow

HERE’s our first glimpse of the EQS SUV – a sister model to the EQS limo – which makes its debut as a Maybach concept. The Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS showcases the extra-luxurious and sustainable treatments that will feature on the firm’s Maybach derivative. The exterior features an enormous flush front grille, ultra-slim headlights, a Maybach two-tone colour scheme in black and red, and vast 24-inch wheels. Inside, the concept has several features from the latest S-Class, including a pair of ‘first-class suite’ seats in the rear, along with a high-end entertainment system and a ‘vase insert’ in the central tunnel. The layout incorporates a storage area that can accommodate folding tables, a box of champagne glasses or a fridge. Up front, there’s an enormous MBUX Hyperscreen, complete with Maybach-specific graphics, that extends almost the…
