‘I was curtly reminded we weren’t here to talk about that’ I recall the moment like it was yesterday, because it was so unusual. legendary brands, safe hands?

THE MONTH ACCORDING TO CAR This is the biggest shake-up in the car industry since Dieselgate. Groupe PSA and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles – two global car-making giants in their own right – have joined forces to create Stellantis. Operating in 130 different world markets, and employing around 400,000 people, the new super-group is headed up by industry wizard Carlos Tavares. All of this can be seen as good news for the 14 marques (plus Fiat Commercial, Mopar and two mobility brands) it now controls. Brands like Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Fiat and Jeep are steeped in history and rightly proud of their long and glorious back catalogues. porsche’s e-hypercar… audi eyes retro ev… hotter and hybrid urus delayed

There’s a mystery entry pencilled in to the Porsche product plan for 2026, dubbed 9XX. Could this be the hypercar? It would be expensive, but it could have brand-boosting and tech-showcasing benefits. According to Porsche CEO Oliver Blume: ‘The hypercar theme keeps popping up on our agenda at irregular intervals. Right now, there exists no approved programme.’ If it were to be approved, such a range-topper would have to be fully electric, but the right batteries simply don’t exist.
