get your goddess on

I don’t know about you but I have struggled with body positivity my whole life. Today, when I look back at photographs of my younger self I think, ‘gosh, I looked great!’ though at the time that wasn’t my perception. When I looked in the mirror I saw pigmentation marks on my skin, a round belly and cellulite to name a few hang-ups. Now that I’m older and wiser I’ve learned to love my curves, though I’d be lying if I said I still didn’t allow my weight to affect how I feel. When I’m skinnier I feel more confident. Yet, I have a friend who is naturally slim who also struggles with body…

Shannae Hello, when my son phoned to say he had won a weighted blanket from Good I was rather hopeful that he wouldn’t like it and it might be regifted to me for Christmas. No such luck. He is a big fan of it, believing that the quality of his sleep has improved – as a survivor of a traumatic brain injury, sleep has not been restorative since his accident – the blanket is living up to the hype. Ann Mac Hi Good! Love your…

the goddess within

There are times in a woman’s life when she may feel at odds with her body. Perhaps as a young woman she felt it developed too fast, too slow, or not in the way society expected. Whether it’s her words or others’ creating the narrative, the act of allowing oneself to let go of negative self-talk and celebrate one’s own body can often prove elusive. Recently, however, more New Zealand women are finding self-empowerment through the lens of photographer, Nami Julia Hampe. Fun and playful, Nami’s Goddess Shoots are designed to celebrate the beauty and variety of the female form against a backdrop of stunning local scenery. Born in Germany to a Japanese mother and a German father, Nami moved to New Zealand 12 years ago, intending to stay for a year,…
