over to you...

CHILDCARE EQUALITY Really agree with your campaign (The cost of childcare is catastrophic for women, 14 June). But there’s always the assumption that the mother’s salary has to pay for childcare, which enables her to work, but it’s for the father as well. Hope we can change the language around this; perhaps paid paternal leave will make more men take equal responsibility. Helen MENTAL HEALTH HELP Thanks Polly for highlighting such an important point in The inconvenient truth about therapy: it’s not accessible to all (14 June). We all love the NHS, but mental health is not supported on a par with physical health. Expectations around measurable outcomes result in time-limited services and long waiting times. Sarah ‘You can’t really get therapy on the NHS, can you?’ Yes you can. Every county has an…

HOMES SCANDAL My heart goes out to those caught up in the Grenfell disaster. Those who lost their lives, but also those who now own a home that no one will buy (Four years after Grenfell, the cladding scandal still blights lives, 14 June). I know how this feels as my North Wales home has been flooded twice in 10 years, thanks to being built on a flood plain. It’s been on sale for years with no interest. But to be ruined financially because work has to be done through no fault of your own is scandalous. Aria…

“we need tangible action on school sex harassment”

Ofsted’s latest report revealed that sexual harassment is rife in schools – nine in 10 girls have been sent unsolicited ‘dick pics’ and being pestered for naked selfies is the norm. Inspectors were told boys share the nudes ‘like a collection game’. Just as depressing is how many children put up with this abuse, saying it’s too routine to bother reporting it. To change this culture we need action, including more education and a better reporting system, now. Not shock and then silence as usual. Boundaries need to be reinforced and online sex abuse taken seriously. Only then will young people know they can safely report this behaviour. We’ll be fighting for change... just watch this space.…

cancel culture: should a disgraced celebrity ever be allowed back?

EPISODE FOUR OF the new season of Netflix’s Master Of None is one of the better 57 minutes of telly you’re gonna see this year. It follows Alicia – played by Naomie Ackie – through two cycles of IVF, and it is gentle, devastating, funny, compassionate. I cried twice, whispered: “Please please please let her be pregnant!” out loud – me! Tough-assed, endlessly gratefully childfree me, who never talks to the TV, which – I am aware – is unlikely to talk back. But, no lie: that ep of that show has changed me a bit. Softened me, shook me up. Ah, but here’s the thing about loving Master Of None: this romcom was conceived by, served as a vehicle for, and is co-written by comedian Aziz Ansari whom, you may…

1. New in DRAKE’S WINDBREAKER As the padded jacket was to winter, so the windbreaker shall be to summer 2021. There. We’ve said it. We now call upon Drake to testify to this truth. 2. New in THE 27-YEAR ITCH First, it took Bill and Melinda Gates’ marriage. Now, it’s taken that of Blair Underwood and Desiree DaCosta! One more, and it’s an RS (Recognised Syndrome, ‘Thing’). 3. Up BROOKE SHIELDS With particular reference to the form on her one-legged rehab bridge. Having recently recovered from an injury ourselves, we have a lot of lust for biomechanical excellence. 4. Non-mover LIZZO In a crochet bra and ripped denim on a night out. This is a style we call Small Top, Big Jeans™ that we herewith formally and thoroughly endorse. 5. New in WOLF FROM FUTURE MAN We’ve just discovered this excellent Amazon Prime comedy,…
