Editors letter
I am writing this having just watched the live grand finale of BBC Two series Icons. In case you missed it, it’s a seven-part study of top 20th-century figures, grouped by profession. Last night was the culmination of the battle for first place – the biggest ‘big dog’ – based on a public vote. In truth, this finale was a little gimmicky, but it didn’t sully my enjoyment of the series. I love a potted history, so a 15-minute romp through the highs (and lows) of various stars’ careers is right up my street. My favourite episode was Artists and Writers, featuring a stunning cast of Pablo Picasso, Virginia Woolf, Alfred Hitchcock and Andy Warhol. Definitely worth a visit to iPlayer.
