hello and a warm welcome…

One of the (few) good things to have come out of the Covid-19 crisis has been expanding our ‘friends and family’ connections across so many platforms, with my regular ‘lives’ on Instagram via @LizEarleMe, and the Liz Earle Wellbeing magazine Facebook page, as well as our Liz Earle Wellbeing YouTube channel and new podcast shows. It’s remarkable to connect in so many different ways, all united in the same spirit of better mid-life wellbeing for all. The decision to stop selling in shops was not an easy one. Giving up our hard-won shelf-space in national chains such as Waitrose and Marks & Spencer was a difficult decision, but the right one. There’s a huge amount of waste, as retailers insist on over-supply, only to pulp thousands of copies when they come…

easy weight loss

Ditching ultra-processed foods (out of a packet) is one of the easiest ways to lose weight. Studies show that when processed foods were eaten instead of unprocessed (matched for total energy, nutrients, fats, sugar, salt and fibre), testers gained around 2lbs in two weeks. Ultra-processed foods seem to be less satiating, leading us to eat more. There are calls to ban subsidies on corn production in the US, which have led to widespread use of cheap high-fructose corn syrup in ultra-processed foods (watch out for it on the label and avoid).…

botanicals lovely liquorice

Known to botanists as Glycyrrhiza glabra, most of us know this popular plant as liquorice. Liquorice is famed for its aromatic root but can also be recognised by its pale purple flowers and prickly pods of pea-like fruit. It was championed by the ancient Egyptians, who drank liquorice tea for a variety of ailments, and was later exported east where it became integrated into the Chinese medicinal tradition. The popularity of liquorice is largely thanks to its sweet flavour, which can make even the most heinous herbal concoction taste palatable. This sweetness comes from a plant chemical called glycyrrhizin, which is up to 50 times more potent than sugar and endows liquorice with many of its health benefits. TUMMY TAMER Liquorice is a brilliant tonic for troubled tummies. A small-scale study has…

backstage beauty with hannah martin

September seems to herald a ‘reset’ in many ways. The frivolities of long, hazy summer days pass and a new rhythm begins. And, just as life shifts with the season (the food we eat, the things we do, the clothes we wear), so does our skincare and makeup. Bright skin is always in but now is a great time to make it your priority. The Ole Henriksen Transform Plus PHAT Glow Facial does this in no time. Simply massage onto clean skin, leave for 15 minutes and let the poly hydroxy acids gently exfoliate. Rinse with water to reveal smooth, soft and freshlooking skin. If you don’t have time for an at-home facial, then try Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow Vitamin C + Turmeric Face Oil. Applied morning or evening, the oil…
