editor’s note power movers

This fall, I am thrilled to celebrate my fifth year at the helm of Marie Claire magazine. While the fabulous fashion closet, fully stocked makeup pantry, and glamorous celebrities have made my time here fun, it’s the innovative, powerful women I’m surrounded by every day that make me excited for year six. New Climate I remember reading an article in the September 2016 issue of Marie Claire about a melting glacier, and feeling simultaneously heartbroken and heartwarmed—the former because of the situation we humans have found ourselves in, the latter because your magazine was addressing it. Upon receiving the August Sustainability Issue nearly a year later, I’m confronted with similar emotions. While the United States’ withdrawal from the Paris Agreement is disheartening beyond words, Marie Claire’s continued commitment to addressing these extremely important issues has shown that conscious, positive action is not only feasible, but fashionable. @samanthakirsch: August is wrapping up but not without some sustainable fashion ~wins~ if I do say so myself! @unwrinkling: shouting out @marieclairemag’s first-ever Sustainability Issue, which feels like a big deal coming from a mainstream glossy. Cheers to a…
