They keep us entertained and informed year-round, and last week our favourite stars gathered to celebrate the best in local television at the New Zealand TV Awards. Eleanor Catton’s stunning adaptation of her novel The Luminaries swept the drama category, taking home eight awards, including Best Script Drama for the Man Booker Prize Winner. Patrick Gower accepted Best Presenter: Entertainment from his managed isolation hotel room, and dedicated his win to his mum, who was the inspiration behind the special Patrick Gower: On Weed. “She never got to see me work in TV,” he said, “and I want to dedicate this to her, and all people like her, who have to suffer in pain at the end of their life.” After making us smile during lockdown, it was no surprise…
