It’s the beginning of an exciting new era in the lives of the three Cambridge children. Future king Prince George and his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have moved with their parents Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, from London to nearby Windsor for a chance to enjoy a more “normal” life. The royal youngsters are now living in Adelaide Cottage, on the estate that surrounds Windsor Castle, which will give them much more freedom than they’ve previously experienced while living in the “fishbowl” that is Kensington Palace. While the four-bedroom house is smaller than the 22-room apartment they’ve been used to, it is set in huge grounds, so there’s plenty of space for the children to run around. THEIR NEW HOME Four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage is one of a handful of Crown properties located on the 655-acre Windsor estate. It’s only a short walk from Windsor Castle, making it the ideal location for the Cambridges. It was built in 1831 as a summer retreat for Queen Adelaide, the wife of William IV, and was originally just two main living rooms with a couple of added-on bedrooms for the Queen and a couple of staff members. It would be fair to describe the stucco cottage as recycled, as it was constructed using materials from nearby Royal Lodge, which had been demolished in 1830 and rebuilt. In the 1950s, it was described as rather “gloomy” and “pokey”. Electricity was delivered via cables from Windsor Castle, but the current was so weak only a small electric…
