a fond fare well

As I type this letter, I'm sitting in my Christmas jumper at my makeshift living room desk, hurriedly finishing up emails and exciting new dressmaking commissions for 2021. Why the hurry, you ask? Well, today is my last day on Simply Sewing before I embark on maternity leave. I'm looking forward to seeing the magazine evolve over the coming year – and hope that the team and you, our lovely readers, are able to regain some normality in the coming months. From super-bold print boy's shirts to pretty pinafore dresses, Gowri Paary of Bypaary has certainly made her mark in the world of designer kids' clothing. Based in Aotearoa, New Zealand, Gowri decribes herself as "a wife, mum, teacher, sewist, small business owner and children’s book author, amongst other things". Her sewing journey began when she was looking for bunting to decorate her son’s nursery before he was born, "I was surprised by the prices of them and thought to myself, 'Maybe I could make this!'.
