Being highly superstitious, I eagerly await the moment December 1st hits the calendar, so I can launch into “deck-the-halls” mode. The tree gets dragged out from under the stairs, The Elf on the Shelf jumps out of his storage box and Santa’s magical North Pole Express gets a battery check, before revving frantically around on its tracks. Most importantly, though, the Christmas wreath and sparkling fairy lights are taken out of storage to adorn our front door. PECORINO & NIGELLA SEED BISCUITS PREP + COOK TIME 1 HOUR (+ REFRIGERATION) MAKES 70 1½ cups (225g) plain flour 1 teaspoon nigella seeds 150g butter, chopped coarsely 1¼ cups (100g) coarsely grated pecorino romano cheese 1 egg yolk 1 Sift flour into a large bowl. Add seeds. Rub in butter and cheese. Add egg yolk and mix to a firm dough. Wrap in plastic, then refrigerate for 1 hour. 2 Divide dough into two portions. Roll each portion on a floured surface until 5mm thick. Cut out stars using a 5cm cutter. Place shapes on greased oven trays. Refrigerate biscuits for 30 minutes. 3 Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan. 4 Bake biscuits, in batches, for 20 minutes. Cool on trays.…
