on watch

BACK TO NORMAL With the time it takes to arrange reviews, the time needed to properly consider and further research each vessel and the process to build them into a printed magazine it can be six or more weeks to create what you see here. Add in the lost opportunities due to bad weather, access to vessels or our writers own time and we need to fill the tanks with good reviews in-waiting to keep a steady stream of quality. With no offence to what we printed, we almost ran dry the last couple issues thanks to the challenges we all face. The good news is that with QLD and NSW mostly back to normal for a while now, we have refuelled and are back at full steam with in-depth reviews…

seadogs of yore

In April 1656, a Dutch East India Company ship called Vergulde Draeck on its way to Batavia, modern-day Jakarta, struck a reef and was wrecked off the coast of Western Australia. Eight men left another 68 survivors behind and set off on desperate attempt to make it to Batavia in a lifeboat. The leader of this effort was Abraham Leeman who, along with his companions, arrived after almost six weeks at sea. A rescue mission was planned and soon two ships set out to rescue the survivors, but instead, returned with 11 fewer souls aboard, having not found the survivors and losing some of their own ashore. Eighteen months after Vergulde Draeck was lost, a second rescue mission set off. The weather was less than ideal, so one of the two ships headed…

Once this stage of the expansion program is complete, Riviera will bring the majority of its final fit-out under one roof to enhance quality, lead times and annual volume. Over the past year, the company produced more than 100 motoryachts from across the 20-model range, more than half of which have been exported. Its growing range includes Flybridge, SUV and Sport Yacht models, and more recently the addition of the larger Sports Motor Yacht collection. Riviera’s flagship Sports Motor Yacht design was launched in…
