it’s ok to be happy

my brain is full of useless information. In fact, it is a running joke between my son and me that at any given time, day or night, I might randomly exhume one of these sequestered gems and deliver it word for word — or note for note, depending on the item — as loudly as possible. Thus, Alex has been treated to a rainbow of 1970s treasures, including the Fig Newton song (and dance), the Slinky jingle, three Coca-Cola commercials, a particularly beleaguering local commercial for Mr. Ray’s Hair Weave (in Washington, D.C.) and pretty much every Schoolhouse Rock ever made. my obsessed-with list

GOLI APPLE CIDER VINEGAR GUMMIES ▶ As much as I love the idea of taking apple cider vinegar, I can’t get it down my gullet. But these gummies are made with fruits such as apples, beets and pomegranates — a taste that completely masks the vinegar! What’s more, each purchase helps support Vitamin Angels, a global charity that provides vitamins for children. $19, goli.com COLLECTIVE PROJECT SPARKLING CBD-INFUSED JUICE ▶ I love me a good fizzy drink, and these cold-pressed juices and teas are unique and tasty, with no CBDish aftertaste. My fave: the mango, coconut and pineapple flavor — sparkly, fruity and bright! $18 (4-pack), collectiveproject.com POLAR VANTAGE V2 MULTISPORT WATCH ▶ Gone are the days of chest strap heartrate monitors that slip, slide or squeeze! Among the usual smartwatch bells and whistles — e.g., GPS,…

Katrina Pilkington NASM-CPT, YES, CES, PES, WFS, CNC, AFAA-GFI Writer of “Level Up: Bridges,” Page 18 Alas, our longtime editorial contributor and training expert Erin Calderone is leaving us to pursue her Ph.D., but an equally awesome expert, Katrina Pilkington, has stepped into her place with ease. Pilkington chose the bridge as her move of choice for her first article with good reason. “Bridges helped me immensely while I was recovering post-baby,” she says. “I feel they are an underrated exercise that I now use regularly, and it has so many modifications we rarely tend to think about.” Pilkington loves seeing her clients have that “lightbulb moment” when they make the connection between their workout and how it benefits their body. She also likes to try new restaurants and foods, and she finds calm…

BATTLE OF THE ’BELLS ▶ WITH EVERYONE TRAINING AT HOME, THE QUESTION REMAINS: SHOULD YOU INVEST IN DUMBBELLS OR KETTLEBELLS? ANSWER: IT DEPENDS ON YOUR GOALS. RESEARCH FOUND THAT TRADITIONAL STRAIGHT-SET LIFTING USING FREE WEIGHTS INCREASED MUSCLE SIZE AND STRENGTH — GOOD IF YOU’RE LOOKING TO SCULPT AND SHAPE SPECIFIC BODY PARTS. BUT TRAINING WITH KETTLEBELLS WAS SHOWN TO INCREASE POWER, ENDURANCE AND STRENGTH, AND BECAUSE YOU ACTIVATE DOZENS OF MUSCLES VERSUS JUST A FEW, YOU’LL BURN MORE FAT AND BOOST YOUR METABOLISM. SO IF YOU HAVE THE SPACE AND THE FUNDS, INVEST IN BOTH FOR A WELL-ROUNDED AND BALANCED PHYSIQUE.…
