me versus meditation

i suck at meditation, and as many times as I have tried it, I have quit shortly thereafter. It is the opposite of relaxing for me to sit still and try to empty my head or let my thoughts happen and acknowledge them without taking action. But in the last few months and the crazy chaos that is my life, I reconsidered the premise. “You have to sit in a comfortable position in a quiet area dedicated just to your practice,” says my yogi friend. While it may seem counterintuitive, exercise can actually reduce inflammation in muscle tissue. According to research published in Science Advances, a pro-inflammatory element called interferon gamma has been associated with muscle wasting and dysfunction, but exercising can counter its effect, helping ward off chronic inflammation and protecting your body from disease. It’s important to note, however, that not all inflammation is bad: Acute inflammation is your immune system’s response to injury and infection, and is the way your body knows it has to begin tissue repair or defend against bacteria.
