the new whip 335d (“d” for diesel!)

I talked about this last month and at the time I really didn’t think it would have happened so quickly, but I pulled the trigger and picked up a diesel Bimmer. After breaking a planetary in my 7.3L’s transmission, and with my other truck under the knife, I needed a car and fast. So the BMW dream became a reality. I’ve been shopping online for one off and on for the better part of a year and I found that there’s really not a ton of them out there. Go search for an ’06 Ram and you’ll find thousands for sale, but a 335d? Not so much. There’s really only a handful available at any given time and most require a plane ticket to check them out in person.…

THE BRODOZER It’s official. A Duramax-powered monster truck has infiltrated the top ranks of Monster Jam—and it’s highly competitive. Driven by Sparks Motors’ Heavy D, the “BroDozer” is the first diesel-powered truck to ever compete in Monster Jam and it debuted at Nashville in late June. It’s powered by a Wagler Competition Products Duramax that’s saddled with a compound turbo arrangement and S&S Diesel Motorsport fueling. Although the truck experienced some overheating issues toward the end of its time on the track, its freestyle performance wasn’t hindered in the least and it even sat in first place for most of the competition. Heavy D and the BroDozer would end up fourth overall—not a bad debut on one of the biggest stages in all of motorsports. In addition to holding…

made in texas

“THE TRUCK WAS NEVER SENT OUT OF STATE. THE SUSPENSION WAS BUILT AND INSTALLED BY STMW IN TEXAS. AUDIO AND PAINT IN TEXAS. PERFORMANCE IN TEXAS. PHOTO SHOOT IN TEXAS. HARVEY COULDN’T STOP US.” -TYLER STEPHENS The wildest ideas come out in the most mundane of places—around a guy’s dining room table, for instance. If we were betting men, we’d put money on the number of crazy project vehicle builds dreamed up around dining room tables nationwide in the range of around 90 percent. That was the case with this 2017 F-250 Super Duty. And when all was said and done, the project collaborators would do battle with one of the biggest storms in modern U.S. history. As the story goes, Tyler Stephens (truck owner) was sitting around…

project looks. muscle. longevity part eight: button up that rear end

HSP Diesel worked with their own shop trucks to develop a simple, well-engineered, affordable solution to wheel hop and axle wrap in GM truck applications due to the massive amounts of torque the Duramax can generate. Traction bars can prevent axle wrap, aid in traction and increase drivetrain and suspension longevity by maintaining the proper pinion and U-joint angles under the most extreme loads. For our crew cab shortbed truck, the bars from HSP measure 70 inches long and will mount to the frame directly beneath the cab. Kits are available powdercoated in your choice of color; we opted for Kingsport Grey, which offers a nice metallic look to offer a noticeable yet subtle appearance. The first part of the install will require you to remove the factory rear…

ultimate competitor

Donavan Harris is the owner of Armor Inc. Diesel & Suspension in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. To promote his shop’s capabilities, he teamed with Lenny Reed of Dynomite Diesel Products to build a drag truck that would be capable of hitting the dyno on a regular basis as well as tackle the pull sled when needed at competitions like the Ultimate Callout Challenge. After the initial build they tackled the inaugural UCC, finishing in the mid to upper range in each event for a fourth-place overall finish. They came back strong in 2017 and finished in the top three in the drag race and sled pull for a second fourth-place overall finish. Harris has also won the Edmonton NHRDA Pro Street as well as the Alligator Diesel dyno day…
