understanding colour can help to create natural, stunning and effective scenes

Colour is such an inherent part of photography, yet we don’t always give it the attention it deserves. Modern cameras can handle tones more accurately than ever, and editing software enables us to edit the colour temperature and saturation after a shoot with precision. It’s easy to think we can fix colours later on, but getting them right in-camera is always the best approach. In our masterclass this issue, we’ll be showing you how and why understanding colour can help to create natural, stunning and effective scenes. Get to grips with the essentials of colour theory from p14. Next up, discover how to create photographic magic closer to home with a fun feature on family documentary portraits. You won’t find any posing or perfection here – turn to p28 to read tips…

sony fx3 expands sony’s cinema line

While Sony’s Alpha mirrorless cameras are essentially hybrid stills/ video shooters, the FX3 is an out-and-out movie camera. Aimed at one-person shooters, it’s complete with Sony’s Cinetone-S colour science, a detachable handle with XLR audio input, integrated mounting points, and a movie-specific control layout unlike anything on Sony’s existing Alpha models. The Sony FX3 might look like an Alpha, but it’s actually the newest and smallest member of Sony’s Cinema line, with the VENICE at the top, the FX9 and the still-new FX6 sitting below it in the line. Internally, the Sony FX3 has plenty in common with the A7S III and Sony FX6. It has a full-frame 10.2MP back-illuminated EXMOR R CMOS sensor paired up with Sony’s high-speed BIONZ XR processor. This combination offers video shooting speeds up to 4K 120p and…

One of the UK’s biggest photo retailers has announced the imminent arrival of a 3,000 square-feet store, set to open in Leeds’ Moor Allerton District Centre in late spring 2021. The retailer also has plans to expand categories such as astro, optics and computing. Founded originally as an online retailer, Wex Photo Video looks committed to its multi-channel offering. Despite the downturn in fortunes of many retailers in the last year of lockdown restrictions, CEO Louis Wahl is optimistic for Wex Photo Video in 2021 and beyond: “The last year has been challenging but…
