Virgin Atlantic – notorious for using the appearance of its female cabin crew as part of its brand – has announced that they no longer have to wear make-up or skirts. Yes, you read that correctly: it’s taken until 2019 to revoke the rule making lipstick, heels and pencil skirts compulsory. Until recently, make-up was a must and trousers had to be specially requested; now they will be provided as standard. British Airways has allowed female cabin crew to wear trousers since 2016, but still insists on make-up, as does Emirates. Virgin Atlantic’s decision shows airlines are moving in the right direction – but it’s time to ditch any rules that dictate a woman’s appearance.…

1. NEW IN NAOMI CAMPBELL AND DRAKE Rumours that they grew close at Jay Z and Beyoncé’s Oscar party surface! We’ve no idea where this leaves the Naomi and Liam Payne rumours, but: the intrigue! 2. UP ANDREW SCOTT Long-time, long-term CoL fave, queued up to be central love interest in the new season of Fleabag, which makes us happy. 3. NEW IN PATRICK, SON OF ARNIE , FOR MANGO MAN Not entirely sure why this pairing tickles us in theory. Reasonably sure why it tickles us in photo form. * Schwarzenegger, obvs 4. UP DUA LIPA AND ISAAC CAREW Insanely hot pop star dates insanely hot chef, everyone dresses well, and we regain faith in the potential of imaginative power coupling. 5. NON-MOVER SPIKE LEE Historical props to him for getting shirty at the Oscars; contemporary props for his combining of camo and…

The first was when I told a mate I was still happy to dance to R Kelly’s Ignition (Remix) regardless of the allegations of sex abuse levelled at him. This, my friend said, was the equivalent of doing a Nazi salute, my abhorrence over the singer’s alleged crimes ‘should disable your ability to hear his music without feeling (possibly being) physically sick’. Things escalated from there. The second was when I told another friend I didn’t think paedophiles should be executed. She said she did, adding ‘but maybe that’s because I’m a mother?’, which left me with no option but to scream: ‘So I don’t have kids, so obviously I think child rape’s fine? Rape ’em! Rape ’em all!’ in her face. Now I feel exhausted, disappointed in myself, disappointed in them, awkward…

1 inside kate and meghan’s ‘professional relationship’

ALL EYES WERE on the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex last week when the sisters-in-law joined their husbands for a special reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the investiture of the Prince of Wales. It was the first time the ‘Fab Four’ had been seen together since attending church on Christmas Day amid relentless reports of tensions between the princes and rumours of a froideur between the duchesses. While Kate and Meghan did not spend much time together on the actual day (they reportedly arrived and left separately), they were photographed briefly laughing together at the reception. For most of the hour-long gathering the duchesses worked the room separately with their husbands. But it didn’t help quash speculation about tensions between the foursome with one newspaper describing the…

THEY CAME IN droves to witness Karl Lagerfeld’s last grand act – his final Chanel show – the customers paying homage in their bouclé tweed suits, pearls, camellias, chain bags and perfume. Anna Wintour in pale pink Chanel, Naomi Campbell in gold boots and tweed from the Egyptian-inspired Métiers d’Art collection, Kristen Stewart wore a logo jumpsuit. The sound of icicles tinkled through the Grand Palais, which was transformed into a snow-filled mountain top wonderland with 12 wooden chalets, smoke curling from their chimneys, surrounded by pine trees. After a minute’s silence, a recording of Karl’s voice echoed around the room, recalling the time he had been asked to take the helm of Chanel. ‘People said, “Don’t take that, it’s hopeless, it’s over’.” He signed off with a memory about the…
